A Glance into Reality!

By Bidhata Rai

Every morning I wake up to a brand new day forgetting the darker sides of past events and savouring only those that make me want to SMILE and only SMILE until I discover the beauty in me.

I dance to every beat of music that plays, I try to make myself ecstatic no matter which path I tread.

I try to find love in every heart I touch.

I greet almost everyone whose paths I cross, at least…I SMILE.

I lose nothing by doing so…instead I earn so much from it- innocent grins stretching from one ear to the other, crinkled though some faces may be but they are full of radiance and exuberance.

These are the things I earn and store in my treasure trove each day.

I earn so much in a day! What more do I want?

Nothing! What is the use of living life just for the sake of it?

Living for others gives it a meaning beyond explanation.

Though the head is above the heart, I somehow feel it’s the heart that makes the right decisions.

I may be wrong but I dare to feel the way I do.

Dance to every tune of music carelessly, let go of all worries and croon thinking you are a nightingale.

It doesn’t matter how others discern you unless you yourself lose faith and trust in you.

There’s nothing wrong in being yourself. But we should not go astray from our moralities and ideologies that have been engraved in us.

We live in a world full of sham; a world impregnated with man who can’t bear the height of others’ success; a world where one’s good fortune may be considered a consequence of cunningness.

Good fortune is actually a product of 95 percent luck and only 5 percent of handwork.

It’s a game of destiny and nothing else.

Shakespeare, in one of his dramas, has penned a line I adore- “A fool never says he’s a fool, whereas a wise man knows him to be a fool.” It’s paradoxically a reality of life.

Quite similar to the line, we come across people who criticise others in place where they actually deserve praise.

Ironically, they don’t hesitate to laud themselves. And the so called critics somehow fail to reflect themselves.

Productivity of any nature will only multiply if we hone ourselves rather than waste time camouflaging our mistakes by highlighting others’ assumed errands.

It’s time we emerge from the nincompoop shell and bear a broad heart with a non-skeptical head and pursue our desired goal.

We should learn to cherish the success of our camaraderie pushing them to greater heights rather than dragging them down by applying loads on them.

This will pave way for us to reach the crescendo of our lives.

Egalitarianism

By Bidhata Rai

Who is superior, man or woman?

If the question is pitched to a man, the obvious answer is “man” and if it asked to a woman then she’ll say “woman” without a second thought.

But I say I don’t know!

You bet this battle between men and women for superiority is one of the hottest topics for discussion.

The debate will continue forever and the conclusion will always remain far fetched.

Having been a feminist, at least until high school, the presumed notion that women indulge in bitching and whining irks me as men too aren’t any different.

Strike a Balance

There is a balancing factor to every aspect of life and men and women should maintain the equilibrium rather than occupy either ends of the seesaw.

Even if they intend to enjoy their ride in the seesaw, it should be such as to prevent the other from falling and not to keep the other at bay.

This definitely calls for recognition that both men and women are one and the same in every aspect of life, be it in their IQ levels, their way of perceiving things or in their reactions to situations.

Why then play the blame game instead of accepting the fact that none of us bear the clean chit of being a perfect being,  a being without any flaws?

All of us have been impinged by the infectious surroundings at one time or the other.

Need of the hour

Instead of analysing the other’s reactions, I strongly feel we should dissect the demand of the hour and focus our attention towards the best techniques in handling the situation.

Equality should not be purred as an issue; it should be discerned as something we own. It is a phenomenon that cascades naturally!

Equality should be taken for granted and ability as a gift.

Men and women aren’t different creatures as we tend  to consider them…so the term equality or inequality should not be sandwiched between them.

They are simply humans and what is the use of talking about equality when they already stand at par with one another.

Attention

There are other grave issues that demand our attention and precious time.

Instead of trying to clear the coast off each other, it is advisable the two sail together and reach the other end of the shore triumphantly.

If one head can make a difference then you can well imagine what two can do.

The alienated feelings etched in the memories of women are still profound.

But the scars have to be washed away now as humans have peregrinated way ahead of those times.

Today every individual has the chance to brush schoulder with the other and stride neck to neck.

I HAVE A DREAM!

By Bidhata Rai

This piece has been largely influenced by the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Junior

I have a dream that one day my countrymen will be judged not by the deeds of their forefathers but by the content of their individual character.

I have a dream that one day the denizens of my country will be able to see Nepal stand united and not in the “Cold War” terms.

I have a dream that one day people will learn to recognize the flaws seeded deep down in their own person and stop camouflaging them by imagining drawbacks in others.

I have a dream that one day people will learn to love others not because they love you but simply because you love them.

I have a dream that we’ll hail others victories as we would our own.

I have a dream that there will come a time when realizing one’s cruel attitude he/she will be able to apologize without remorse.

I have a dream that one day we’ll welcome others’ success with our mouths stretch to the ears not just in picture but in reality.

I have a dream that we’ll soon see Nepal and its people content and satisfied…for I believe he who is satisfied is the richest man on earth and even the wealthiest man is poor if he is displeased.

So learn to be satisfied and learn to recognize goodness in others.

Above all learn to accept your faults and slowly you’ll be able cleanse yourself…
